The Owls

Not just a collection inspired by an owl attack, but also my spirit animal, and the inspiration for our company name.

On an early morning run in our residential neighborhood I had an encounter that at first struck me with overwhelming fear, but eventually led me down a path I would have never imagined. I was attacked by an owl around 4:30am. It repeatedly swooped at my head from behind, knocking and scratching me with its strong sharp talons. I called Chase hysterically crying and screaming to come pick me up, and when he arrived, the owl was perched on a speed limit sign staring me down. Then, approximately 1 week later, it attacked me again on the other side of the neighborhood. This second time when I called Chase, he was also out for a run and was able to head in the direction of where I was attacked. I was long gone and safely in our home when he arrived at the scene. As he ran through, he was struck from behind by that same owl. Knowing someone else experienced the same thing brought some relief, but PTSD was setting in. I started reading and learning about owls, which was a coping mechanism to help overcome the fear and anxiety that was gripping me on runs that I was going to be attacked from behind again. This intense research led me to a greater understanding of owls and their behaviors, which helped me in overcoming the trauma responses that were reoccurring anytime I was on a walk, hike, or run. Now I see the owl as a spirit guide, a wise symbol of the ability I have to find strength and lessons in difficulty.
